Sarah McKinley Obituary, Death Cause – Sarah McKinley, originally from Blanchard, Oklahoma, was only 18 years old when her husband, who had been battling cancer, passed tragically on Christmas Day of 2012. This left her a widow and the only parent of a baby who was just three months old. On the evening of the last day of the year, Sarah and her son were the only ones at home when two strangers knocked on the door, one of them was carrying a hunting knife that was 12 inches long.
While Sarah was guarding the entrance, the two strangers began to force their way inside. Sarah quickly grabbed a shotgun with a 12-gauge barrel and a revolver before making a 911 call while one of the men went door-to-door. She uttered the words, “I have two firearms in my hand. If he were to enter through this door, would it be okay to shoot him? I’m here by myself with my newborn child; may I possibly have someone dispatched to this location right away?
The operator of the 911 service had the following response: “Well, you need to do everything in your power to safeguard yourself.” I can’t promise you that you’ll be able to pull it off, but you should do whatever it takes to keep your baby safe. It was later said by the operator of the 911 service that it was obvious that Sarah was afraid. She was speaking very quietly into the phone so that the intruder would not hear her telling the operator that she had dialed 911. She questioned Sarah by inquiring, “Do you have an alarm on your car that you can set off with your remote control that might scare him?”
