Mary Sullivan Obituary, Death Cause – Because of Sister Mary Sullivan’s passing, each and every member of the RIT family now has a hole in their hearts that can never, ever be filled again. She was the first woman to ever assume the job of dean at the RIT College of Liberal Arts, which means she broke the gender barrier and shattered the glass ceiling. In addition to being an ardent instructor in the subjects of language and literature at the institution where she taught, she also served as the head of the English Department. During the time that she held this position, she also fulfilled the role of president of the Academic Senate, which was yet another feather in her cap of achievements. In recognition of the outstanding job that she accomplished instructing students inside of the classroom.
She was presented with the Eisenhart Prize for Outstanding Teaching in the year 1996. This honor came after she was praised for the exceptional work that she did. Because of the recognition that she has gotten, she has earned this honor as a result. On April 13th, in commemoration of her life and the legacy that she has bequeathed upon the world, the flag of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) will be flown at a height of half-staff.
