Maddie Schmidt Obituary, Death Cause – The cancellation of sports and extracurricular activities at Eaglecrest High School Following the passing of a teacher on Tuesday night, classes are going to be postponed until Thursday because an abundance of caution has been exercised. Teacher Maddie Schmidt exhibited symptoms that were compatible with bacterial meningitis, according to the Arapahoe County Public Health Department.
Meningitis caused by bacteria is a potentially contagious and dangerous disease that may require hospitalization but is treatable with antibiotics. Eaglecrest High School sent a letter to the parents of its students that included the following statement: “We take this matter very seriously and are working closely with Arapahoe County Public Health (ACPH) to identify students or staff who may have been in close contact with the infected staff person.
The Arapahoe County Public Health Department will make direct contact with all staff personnel as well as the families of pupils who have been identified as having close contact. Antibiotics for prophylaxis will be provided to those particular people. The PSAT and SAT examinations that were going to take place on Wednesday will instead take place on a different day.
