Lucyamma Menezes Obituary, Death Cause – Lucyamma Menezes (nee Isaac), age 87. Beloved wife of Jerry. Loving mother of Vinod (Maya) Menezes and Anand Menezes. Cherished Grandma of Nayan and Sonali. Loving daugher of the late L. C. and Thresiamma Isaac. Dear sister of James (Leelamma), and preceded in death by her other siblings; Baby Kochamma “Clara” (late K.) Thomas, Sister Janita (Sisters of the Destitute), Philomena (late Kunjukutty), Sister Bernade (Carmelite Sisters), and John (Anniamma).

She was raised in an environment that fostered a strong belief in Christian faith, the value of education and the virtue of charity. Additionally, her family was blessed with a special talent for music which she appreciated and cherished throughout her life. Seeking to further her education, Lucyamma came to Chicago in 1962 to study at Loyola University and eventually earned a Master’s Degree and Ph.D in Social Work.

Dearest aunt of Syriac (Rosemary), Isaac “Ike” M.D. (Jaya, M.D.), Jake (Nirmala), and other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends in the US and in India. Lucyamma Menezes passed away peacefully on March 31, 2023. She was diagnosed with a rare cancer in September 2021 and with tremendous bravery and fortitude she battled the disease until the very end. Lucyamma was born in India on December 10, 1935.

Her career spanned 55 years helping hundreds of people in need, thus fulfilling the ethics of her upbringing. As a devout Catholic, Lucyamma was a regular attendee of mass where she looked forward to spiritual instruction and the glorious music. Additionally, she and Jerry enjoyed discovering new restaurants together as well as taking road trips around the country and traveling the world.

But what she cherished more than anything was being in the company of her family. Visitation Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from 4:00-9:00 p.m. at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home, 8025 W. Golf Road in Niles. Funeral Wednesday, April 5 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Catherine Laboure Church.
