Guy Walton Obituary, Death Cause – I write this to inform you that Anthony “Guy” Walton passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023. It is with deep regret that I share this news with you. For a good number of years, Guy was an engaged participant in the activities of the Durham College Retirees’ Association and its Executive. He was a reserved individual who possessed a great sense of humor. 1978 was the year that Guy started his career at DC, and he remained on the faculty there until his retirement in 2003.
Because he had such a strong commitment to the students in the District of Columbia, he chose to resume his teaching career in the District of Columbia on a contract basis from 2006 until 2012.
At this time, we ask that you remember Guy’s family in your prayers because they will be holding a celebration of his life in a manner that is private. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cindi Walton; son, Geoffrey Lester and his wife, Erin; his grandchildren, Hayes and Mason Lester; brother and sister-in-law, Trent and Stephanie Stephan; cousins, Kurt Merchant and his wife, Carol, Kristy Clay, and David Worrell; numerous friends he considers family; and his sweet four-legged babies, Lola and Star.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Trent Stephan and Stephanie Stephan. His love of the water and boating were his primary hobbies, and he had been an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla #85 in Altavista ever since it was founded in January 1974. Over the course of his life, he was honored with a number of commendations for his work as a boating instructor, trainer, and educator, in addition to serving as the organization’s financial officer for a number of years. On May 16, 2021, at 3:30 p.m., a memorial service honoring Guy’s life will take place at the Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg. The Chaplain Susan Allen and Rabbi John Nimon will preside over the service. After the funeral or memorial service, there will be a quick reception for the family.
