Eury Chang Obituary, Death Cause – Our hearts go out to Dr. Eury Chang’s family and friends during this difficult time; please accept our deepest condolences. Back in 2013, Eury finished his Master of Arts in Theatre Studies here at our school. Shortly after that, he began his candidacy for a PhD in the field of Theatre Studies. Eury is a scholar and actor in the world of theatre, and he was born in Vancouver.
His dissertation was devoted wholeheartedly to addressing the scarcity of documentation of the significant contributions made by Asian Canadian playwrights to the professional theater in this country. This deficiency was brought to his attention during the course of his research for the dissertation. This was the subject of his dissertation for his doctoral program. Eury was an active member of the Public Scholars Initiative, which is situated under the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
In addition to his role as a sessional faculty member in our division, Eury held this role during his time at the university. Eury worked in the non-profit arts sector as a professional writer and editor, as well as a performance dramaturge and tour manager, prior to entering the field of education. Also, he served as a member of the peer jury for the City and District of North Vancouver, the British Columbia Arts Council, and the Canada Council for the Arts. On March 15, just a few days before he died away, Eury was honored with the compassionate doctoral degree he had been working toward.
This was because he had racked up a long list of academic accomplishments, and he was also making significant progress on his dissertation. We are going to miss him greatly due to the fact that he was not only a brilliant academic but also an outstanding artist, and he had a wonderful spirit. During this trying time, we want his family and friends to know that they are in our thoughts and prayers.
