Cape Coral Motorcycle Accident – On Thursday afternoon, an accident that took place on Old Burnt Store Road close to Cape Coral resulted in the death of a motorcycle. The Cape Coral Police Department received a report around noon that a woman who was 70 years old and from Cape Coral was driving a 2023 Hyundai Kona in a southbound manner on Old Burnt Store Road South as she approached the junction with Southwest 1st Street.
She pulled over in the center median as she waited for the traffic going north to clear up so that she could turn left onto Southwest 1st Street. Her destination was Southwest 1st Street. Ion Dumitru, 58 years old, was riding his motorbike, a 2007 Yamaha XVS11M, in the direction of northbound traffic on Old Burnt Store Road South as he reached the intersection of Southwest 1st Street.
The woman who was driving the Hyundai told the CCPD that she was under the idea that traffic heading north had cleared, so she turned left by crossing the travel lane heading northward, and she did not see the oncoming motorcycle until after the accident had occurred. Dumitru was forced to slip for roughly 91 feet as a result of heavy braking. He swerved to the right in an effort to avoid the crash, but he was not successful in his efforts.
The motorcycle’s rider lost control of the vehicle after the front bumper of the Hyundai connected with the left side of the motorcycle, which then caused the motorcycle to rotate counterclockwise and land on its right side. Dumitru was catapulted from the vehicle and landed roughly 51 feet to the north of the point of impact where the crash took place.
