Iorweth Roberts Obituary, Death Cause – We are writing to notify you about the passing of a longstanding member of the Conwy parkrun family, and we do so with a heavy heart because this news is very sad to us. We are writing to inform you about the passing of a longtime member of the family. Iorweth Roberts, a runner who was also a regular volunteer at the shelter where he worked, passed away last night under mysterious circumstances.
Iorweth was a competent runner who competed in a range of events during the course of his life, including fall races and a number of marathons. Throughout his life, he competed in a variety of contests. In spite of the fact that he was well into his sixties by the time the most recent Snowdonia Marathon took place in 2018, he had taken part in each and every one of the competitions that had taken place since the event’s debut in 1982.
This is an extremely difficult marathon to run. Iorweth was a proud member of the Eryri Harriers and would wear the club colors whenever he competed in a race or ran in his local parkrun in Conwy, which was also his hometown parkrun. In addition, he would wear the club colors whenever he raced in his hometown parkrun in Conwy. Volunteering for events that were organized by Eryri was something that he did on a regular basis.
And you could regularly find him working a checkpoint on a hill top that was buffeted by the wind and the rain while wearing his one-of-a-kind high-visibility oil skin jacket. After competing in Conwy’s inaugural event, Iorweth gave his time to help us out with the second one, and despite the fact that his health was deteriorating, he continued to marshal regularly with us right up until September of the year before.
You could always find him marshaling his customary place at the castle turn at the Conwy parkrun. It didn’t matter what the weather was like; you could always find him there. His volunteer activity received an incredible amount of his undivided attention. He was filled with a strong sense of pleasure when he went to the Conwy Sports Awards in 2017, the same year that Conwy parkrun was honored with the Conwy Sports Award Selection Panel Special Recognition Award.
He was a volunteer who served for a considerable amount of time, in addition to being a regular participant in the Conwy parkrun, where he was much regarded and cherished by everyone. At Conwy parkrun, we shall all remember him with much affection and sorrow. We will pay our respects to his memory by giving a minute-long round of applause at the parkrun that will take place this coming Saturday.
