Billy Sellers Obituary, Death Cause – The staff, physicians, and volunteers at Russell Medical would like to extend their sincerest sympathies to the family of Dr. Billy (B.B.) Sellers, who passed away earlier this week. Dr. William (B.B.) Sellers was a longtime employee of the facility. Dr. Sellers was an established member of the group of medical professionals at Russell. Dr. B.B., as he was fondly referred to by his patients, was a well-respected pediatrician who had worked at Russell Medical for a very long time. Dr. B.B. had been at the practice for a very long time. His clientele consisted of people of varying ages and generations.
Dr. B.B. was born and raised in Alexander City, and he attended both BRHS in Alexander City and The University of Alabama for his formal education. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, he continued his education in pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego, where he also served as an intern and as a resident. His area of expertise is in pediatrics. In the beginning of his career, he focused on academic medicine.
He was a professor of pediatrics and pediatric nephrology at the Medical School of Georgia and, later, at the University of Tennessee. His early career was dedicated to this field. Following that, he finished a fellowship in the field of nephrology. Dr. Sellers and his family moved back to Alexander City in 1981, and the following year, he began a pediatric practice in a humble office that was located close to the former location of the Horseshoe Bend Hotel.
Dr. Sellers had a successful medical practice for the better part of four decades, during which time he provided care for patients at all periods of their life, from childhood through young adulthood. His patients ranged in age from infants to elderly people. Due to the fact that he was such a devoted part of the medical staff at the facility, Children’s of Alabama bestowed upon him the title of Master Pediatrician in recognition of his service there. In recent years, he has been an active member in the promotion of the cancer support group that meets at the Russell Medical Cancer Center at UAB Medicine. This center is operated by UAB Medicine.
